(Inspired by a recent Business Insider discussion.)
The path to becoming a real estate agent in the San Francisco Bay Area is surprisingly straightforward. With a small investment and a bit of coursework, you can obtain a real estate salesperson license in most states, including in California.
The absence of prerequisites like a college degree or apprenticeship might seem alarming, but there is a bright side. This accessibility promotes diversity and has paved the way for numerous self-made success tales in the real estate industry. But of course there are pros and cons.
While the ease of entry democratizes the profession of SF Bay Area Realtor, it also opens the door to potential pitfalls for both consumers and real estate professionals. Given that property transactions are often the most significant financial commitments we undertake, the presence of inexperienced or even inept agents can be concerning.
It's important to understand that not all agents are created equal. The training, mentorship, continuing education and self-improvement undertaken by the agent is what makes an exceptional San Francisco Realtor. True career professionals, deserving of their commissions and client trust, are those who invest in honing their skills—from marketing, pricing and negotiations, to managing relationships with clients and agents on the other side.
Vivre founder, Danielle Lazier, finds it interesting to reflect on her early career aspirations—lawyer, teacher, therapist. Today, they all intertwine in her current role with the Vivre team. There are elements of all three in what we do each day as San Francisco Bay Area real estate agents.
A 2015 survey by Inman highlighted "low-quality agents" as the primary concern in the real estate industry. Fast forward a few years, and San Francisco's agent count has only continued to swell. With over 5,000 licensed professionals but fewer than 1,000 active listings as per SFARMLS data, the disparity speaks volumes.
San Francisco is home to numerous seasoned real estate professionals, many with whom we've had the pleasure of collaborating for decades. However, not every agent brings the same level of expertise to the table. Is it time to elevate the industry standards? As committed agents, we're up for the task.
The quality of service in any industry is bound to vary. When venturing into the property market, aligning with a trusted agent is paramount. For more insights, check out our blog post on DanielleLazier.com:
