Katie’s Perfect Day in Russian Hill

I've been lucky to have called Russian Hill home for over four years. Living here with my husband and our dog, I've fallen head over heels for this little pocket of San Francisco. Let me take you through my ideal day in the neighborhood - it's packed with my favorite spots and local secrets!

Morning: Tennis with a View and Breakfast Burritos

I’ll start my day with these two perfectly Russian Hill experiences:

1. Morning Tennis at Alice Marble Courts

There's nothing quite like playing tennis with views of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge!

I try to get there early, especially on weekends, to snag a court.

2. Breakfast at Cafe Isabella

On Taylor Street, this Mexican breakfast spot is my go-to for delicious food and great vibes.

The outdoor seating is always bustling. My order? The Farmer's Breakfast Burrito.

Midday: Parks, Lunch, and Lazy Afternoons

After breakfast, I love to explore the neighborhood's green spaces and grab a bite:

1. Francisco Park's Dog Run

This park opened in 2022, and it's become one of my favorite spots.

There's a large lawn, community garden, playground, and what I consider the best dog run in the city. It's perfect for the whole family!

2. Lunch at Blue Barn

Sue me, I love Blue Barn! But it's not the salads that call my name - it's the Buddha seasonal sandwich. Trust me, it's worth trying.

3. Nap at the Top of Vallejo

There's a tiny park at the top of the Vallejo steps (near Jones St) with one of the best views in the city. It's my go-to spot for an afternoon break. Fun fact: it's where my husband proposed!

Evening: Cozy Dinner and Sweet Treats

As the day winds down, I love to indulge in some local favorites:

1. Dinner at Serafina

This cozy, homestyle Italian restaurant is tucked away in a largely residential part of the neighborhood.

Over the years, the staff have become friends, and the place is always filled with Russian Hill residents.

2. Dessert at Swensen's

On my way to Swensen's, I always detour through my favorite block - Green St between Jones and Leavenworth.

It has so many gorgeous homes, including one of only two surviving octagon houses in the city. Once I've braved the line at Swensen's, I treat myself to a double scoop of Raspberry and Banana.

My Hidden Gems: Local Favorites You Shouldn't Miss

Want to explore Russian Hill like a true local? Here are some of my under-the-radar favorites:

• Muse Juice Bar: In my opinion, it's the completely undiscovered best smoothie in the city.
• William Cross Wine Merchants Patio: There's a hidden gem of a wine patio in the back of this local wine store. Perfect for a relaxing evening or pre-dinner drink!
• Cheese Plus: Don't skip the made-to-order sandwiches. They're my go-to for picnics in the park.
• Green Beauty Nail Salon: A mani-pedi while watching Friends (which they stream at all times)... sign me up!
• Showtime Groomers: 5 stars every single time. Bernard makes it easy to schedule, does an incredible job, and treats my dog like his own. My pup, Rudy, gets ridiculously excited when we walk into Showtime!
